M.ED SPECIAL EDUCATION (Learning Disability)
Aim of the Programme
The aim of the M. Ed. Special Education (Learning Disability) programme is of preparing teachers as education leaders. The major thrust of the M. Ed. Special Education programme would be professional preparation of teacher educators who would through this process are equipped with the knowledge and competencies to facilitate and conduct initial preparation and continuing professional development of teachers. They would need to be necessarily equipped with the core competencies and knowledge related to teacher education, its philosophical underpinnings, research methodology, curriculum planning and be aware of best practices in the field of pedagogical interventions and adaptations for children with Learning disability.
Programme Outcomes
- Develop professional competency as teacher educators equipped with the knowledge and skill to facilitate and conduct initial preparation and continuing professional development of teachers in special education and inclusive education.
- Endow with the core competencies and knowledge related to teacher education and its philosophical underpinnings related to special education and inclusive education.
- Build theoretical knowledge and skills in research methodologies and conduct research in order to enhance education of children with disabilities in all educational settings (Inclusive Schools and Open/Home settings)
- Equip with competencies and knowledge related to curriculum planning and be aware of best practices in the field of pedagogical interventions and adaptations for children with disabilities in all educational settings
- Exert leadership skills in advocating and meeting educational needs of children with disabilities including counselling in all educational settings (Inclusive Schools and Open/Home settings) including higher education.
- Widen their perspective to incorporate ICT skills as teacher educators in higher education settings and in teaching learning process of educating Children with Disabilities in all educational settings embedded with Universal Design for Learning.
- Expand their knowledge and competency to clear competitive examinations like NET, SET, TRB, TET, CTET etc.
Eligibility for Admissions
The admission for the degree of M.Ed. Special Education (Learning Disability) shall be open to:
a) A candidate who has successfully completed B.Ed. Special Education (Learning Disability) with a minimum of 50% marks from Mahatma Gandhi University or equivalent.
b) A student with B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. B.Ed.Spl.Ed. (4 years Integrated)
c) A candidate having B.Ed. with multi-category should not be admitted for specialization in a single Disability at the M.Ed. level.
d) Reservation of seats for M.Ed. Degree in Special Education Programme shall be in accordance with University / Govt. / RCI norms from time to time.

The total number of seats will be 10

50% – of seats are under management, provided they satisfy eligibility condition prescribed by the university. Of the remaining seats 65%shall be filled on general merits and 35% shall be filled by candidates belonging SC/ST and other backward communities.
Award of certificates
M.Ed Special Education (Learning disability) issued by Mahatma Gandhi University.
Duration of the course.
The duration of the programme shall be of four semesters spread over two academic years.

FEES
The rates of fee will be charged as prescribed by Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam
and Nirmala Sadan.

Hostel Accommodation
Hostel accommodation will be provided to out station candidates on request on first come first basis.
The following documents should be attached with the application.
a) Attested photocopy of S.S.L.C book to prove date of birth.
b) Attested photocopy of mark list of all parts of qualifying examination. (Application without attested copies of all mark lists will be summarily rejected.)
c) Attested photocopy of degree certificate / provisional certificate of qualifying examination.
d) Attested photocopy of certificate from competent authority in support of Special reservation (SC/ST/ OEC/ SEBC)
e) Conduct certificate from Head of the Institution last attended. (In original)
f) Copy of the equivalency/ Eligibility certificate stating that the qualifying examination is recognized M.G University for seeking admission to M.Ed. Special Education (LD) course. (For those who have passed qualifying examination from other Universities/ institutions outside of the State).
Discipline
The candidates admitted shall be subjected to strict discipline inside and outside the campus and also in the hostel where accommodation is provided. The candidates are expected to maintain decorum, decency and discipline throughout their pursuance of the course with the staff, faculty and other supporting workers. The hostlers should follow the prescribed rules in the hostel. Infringement or violation of rules shall result in rustication from the hostel for period as decided by the management of the institute. Use of mobile phones cinematic dances and fashion show in the
campus is strictly prohibited
Ragging
Ragging is a crime prohibited under law. Anyone found indulging in the act of ragging will be punished by management and the law enforcing authorities.
