INTRODUCTION

Nirmala Sadan is an Institute dedicated for the Education, Research and rehabilitation of persons with Disability.   The training college for Special Education is recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi and affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam.  Considering the need of special Educators in the field of Learning Disability the course B. Ed Special Education (Learning Disability) has started in Nirmala Sadan.    The duration of the programme is two years

COURSE AND ITS GENERAL OBJECTIVES

B.Ed Special Education [Learning Disability] is a course affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University and approved by Rehabilitation Council of India.  This course will educate children with Learning Disability. On completion of the B.Ed Special Education (Learning Disability] course, the teacher can function as
– Coordinator/In charge/Principal of schools or programmes having children       Learning Disability
– Resource room teachers in regular schools where children with learning             Disability are found.
– Special educator in special schools, service centers for the Intellectually          Disabled, rehabilitation centers, sheltered workshops, composite                     Rehabilitation centers, District Rehabilitation centers etc.

ELIGIBILITY

  Eligibility for admission, Norms for admission and Reservation of seats for B.Ed Special Programme shall be according to the rules framed by the University and Government from time to time for the general B.Edprogramme.

Candidates who have passed any graduate level degree examination which is recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University with 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grade (CGPA of 2) are eligible for admission. SC/ST candidates need only a minimum pass in the qualifying examination. 

  Candidates with Masters’ degree in Disability Studieswith Learning Disability as elective subject are eligible for a weightage of 5% marks.

The total number of seats will be 25

50% of total seats are under management, provided they satisfy eligibility conditions prescribed by the University.  Of the remaining seats 65% shall be filled on general merit and 35% shall be filled by candidates belonging SC/ST and other backward communities.

  • The duration of B.Ed. Special Education (LD)programme shall be 4 semesters spread over two years.
  • The duration of each semester shall be 100 days spread over 20 working weeks.
  • A student may be permitted to complete the programme, on valid reasons, within a period of 3 years from the date of admission to the programme.
  •  The medium of instruction and examination of the course shall be English.

     The B.Ed. Special Education (Learning Disability) programme shall include

    The rates of fee will be charged as prescribed by Mahatma Gandhi University and Nirmala Sadan.

    Hostel Accommodation

      Hostel accommodation will be provided to out station candidates on request on first come first basis.

    The following documents should be attached with the application

    1. Attested photocopy of S.S.L.C. book to prove date of birth.
    2. Attested photocopy of mark lists of plus two examination
    3. Attested photocopy of mark list of all parts of qualifying examination.(Application without attested copies of all mark lists will be summarily rejected)
    1. Attested photocopy of Degree certificate/Provisional certificate of qualifying examination
    2. Attested photocopy of certificate from competent authority in support of special reservation (SC/ST/OEC/SEBC)
    3. Attested copy of certificate by Medical board certifying that the candidate is a sibling or parent of child with Learning Disability.
    4. Conduct certificate from Head of the Institution last attended. (In original)
    5. Copy of the equivalency/Eligibility certificate stating that qualifying examination is recognized M.G. University for seeking admission to B.Ed Special Education (Learning Disability) course. (For those who have passed qualifying examination from other Universities/institutions outside of the State).

    Discipline

    The candidates admitted shall be subjected to strict discipline inside and outside the campus and also in the hostel where accommodation is provided.  The candidates are expected to maintain decorum, decency and discipline throughout their pursuance of the course with the staff, faculty and other supporting workers.  The hostlers should follow the prescribed rules in the hostel.  Infringement or violation of rules shall result in rustication from the hostel for period as decided by the management of the institute.  Use of mobile phones   cinematic dance and fashion show in the campus is strictly prohibited.

    Ragging

    Ragging is a crime prohibited under law.  Anyone found indulging in the act of ragging will be punished by management and the law enforcing authorities.
